We met Rod and Ardith Rehfeld and their dog Seth in Quartzsite Arizona last January. Rod and Ardith accepted a position as Campground Host in the Tahoe National Forest at the Indian Valley Campground near Downieville, CA. We promised them we would come visit so off we went.
We left at 2:30 PM on Wednesday afternoon 7-8-09 destination, Indian Valley Campground in Indian Valley, California. We arrived at 5:30 PM just in time for dinner. Inside the dining tent and protected from the mosquitoes we enjoyed a great steak dinner.
We didn’t take our trailer for this short stay and took the camper instead. It is fully self contained with toilet, shower kitchen and fridge. The one thing lacking is an oven. Roxanne came home and dug up a cute little portable electric oven that won’t take much space. Problem solved.
This is Gold Country! and there is evidence of past gold mining activity from the 1800’s and 1930’s depression.

Seth Rehfeld gets his picture taken. Seth, like his parents was a great Host and welcomed Maddy into his home. Seth and Maddy played and shared leather chews. Schnauzers are often one person dogs. Seth was a rare exception and if you are willing he will sit in your lap and be your best friend.
We were getting ready to say goodbye and we got Rod, Ardith and Seth to pose by the campground sign in in their uniforms.

On our way home we stopped in Downieville California. Beautiful little -town getting ready for a downhill bicycle race on Saturday 7-11-09.

Rod and Ardith told us war stories of how people that didn’t line up perfectly got themselves stuck on this bridge and a crane had to pick them up and reposition them so they could continue.
Well That was our trip to Indian Valley with Rod, Ardith and Seth. Thanks guys, we had a great time. We are already planning to do it again at the end of August.
Here it is Saturday morning 7-11-09, basking in the afterglow of a super mini vacation nursing a hot cup of coffee listening to the Food Channel on TV and working on the Blog. Roxanne promises eggs and potatoes for breakfast. Gracyn our Granddaughter called at 7:45 AM to invite us to her birthday party this afternoon and to ask if she could come spend the night. Gracyn is now 4 years old. All I can say is “Thank you Lord” I can’t imagine life getting any better!
Next stop? I don’t know for sure. Fellow travelers refer often to something called “Hitch Itch” That is when you are sitting in your living room and you just get the “URGE” to get outta Dodge. Somewhere, Anywhere, as long as it’s on the road.
Hang on I’m beginning to feel a tingle. Hope it’s not hitch itch cause I got a Honey-Do–List that needs doing. Nope that tingle was my stomach growling for some more coffee and maybe some eggs & potatoes. See ya later.
